1991 Termination of the case against Solzhenitsyn
25 years ago, on September 17, 1991, the USSR General Prosecutor's Office closed the case on charges of treason against Alexander Solzhenitsyn, initiated in 1974 after the publication of The Gulag Archipelago, due to the lack of corpus delicti, and officially apologized to the writer by sending a corresponding telegram. In this regard, Solzhenitsyn announced his intention to return to his homeland after he had finished his "previously begun literary works." Alexander Isaevich returned to Russia only in 1994.
