The United States does not recognize the results of the State Duma elections on the territory of the annexed Crimea. This is stated in a statement by the official representative of the State Department John Kirby.

"The United States does not recognize legitimacy, and will not recognize the results of the elections to the Russian Duma planned in the Crimea occupied by Russia on September 18," the statement said. "Our position on Crimea is clear: the peninsula is an integral part of Ukraine."

The sanctions against Russia associated with the Crimea will be valid until the control over the peninsula returns to Ukraine, Kirby emphasized.

"We are also still deeply preoccupied with the humanitarian situation in the Crimea, including the status of the Crimean Tatar population and widespread messages about the loss of people and human rights violations," the Kirby statement said.

On September 18, Russia will be held in the State Duma, including on the territory of the annexed Crimea. Official Kyiv called on citizens of Ukraine who are located on the territory of the peninsula, not to participate in the vote.

On September 8, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine accepted the appeal to the parliaments of foreign states, parliamentary assemblies and international organizations with a request not to recognize elections to the State Duma in the territory of Crimea and Sevastopol . Russia will not respond to the possible decision of foreign parliaments on non-recognition of elections in the Crimea and take into account, said Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov. "In this case, this decision will not play any role and will not be perceived in any way, because Crimea is the territory of Russia. We will not be able to recognize or take into account this decision," Peskov said.

On Friday, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko proposed supplementing the sanctions list by persons who will participate in the State Duma elections in the territory of the annexed Crimea. “We must agree that those persons who will be proclaimed by the so -called winners in illegal elections to the State Duma in the Crimea, who will be held on September 18, should also take a worthy place on the sanctions list,” Poroshenko said. “This is an honorary ticket to the sanctions club.” The President instructed the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council to Alexander Turchinov to finalize the sanctions list and include in it both those who will be elected and members of the election commissions, participants in the electoral process.
