A spy plane crashed in California

An American Lockheed U-2 spy plane crashed in California. The crash happened around 9 a.m. local time (19:00 Moscow time), according to the Los Angeles Times.

The pilots managed to eject. There is no word on their condition.

According to the US Air Force, the flight was a training one. The crash happened shortly after takeoff.

Now the military is relying more on drones for reconnaissance and data collection. U-2 is scheduled to be decommissioned in 2019 (English).
