Estonia President complained about the "naivety" of colleagues in relation to Russia

Russia poses a threat to Europe by financing populist parties and undermining the basics of the Western security, said Estonian President Toomas Ilves in an interview with BuzzFeed .

“We cannot expect that Russia will adhere to the fundamental agreements that concern the safety of the West. Sometimes I am confused by the naivety of some leaders who, repeatedly observing their violation, continue to pretend that they have not noticed a deliberate undermining of the western security bases, ”said the Estonian leader, leading a France as an example, which advocated the removal of anti -Russian sanctions.

Earlier, Ilves, as well as other leaders of the Baltic countries, have repeatedly declared a growing threat from Russia, the publication notes. At the same time, the head of Estonia suggested that the countries of the Baltic region are not included in the list of priorities of Russia.

“I think that [threats] are relatively low, because no one wants to experience Article 5 [NATO Charter about the armed attack],” he said, suggesting that countries that are not part of either the EU or NATO are subjected to a more serious threat.

On September 19, Sweden authorities decided to place a permanent military contingent on one of their islands in the Baltic Sea. They explained this decision to the increased threat from Russia.

In July 2016, the American Analytical Center Atlantic Council published a study that notes that Russia could capture Poland in one night. In the report, American analysts advise the Polish authorities to “pursue a clear policy” regarding a possible military threat from Russia.
