Putin invited Naryshkin to head the SVR

Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested that the State Duma of the sixth convocation to Sergey Naryshkin head the external intelligence service to the Speech Duma. This was reported by Interfax with reference to the press secretary of President Dmitry Peskov.

“At a meeting with Naryshkin and [the current head of the SVR Mikhail] Freudkov, Putin invited Naryshkin to head the SVR,” Peskov said.

According to Peskov, Putin called the work of Fradkov headed by the SVR "Effective and High Professional." In the near future, Fradkov will be nominated to the chairmen of the board of directors of Russian Railways.

Whoever replaces Naryshkin as the speaker of the Duma is still unclear. Earlier, Kommersant and Rain reported that the first deputy head of the Presidential Administration Vyacheslav Volodin would be nominated as the new chairman of the lower house of parliament. Sources of Vedomosti reported that the preparation for this is the permutation in the Central Executive Committee of United Russia, in particular, the appointment of his head of Vladimir Burmatov.

Naryshkin served as chairman of the State Duma since December 2011. Before that, for three years he headed the administration of the President of the Russian Federation (then Dmitry Medvedev was the head of state).

Fradkov headed the foreign intelligence service since 2007. Before that, he served the position of Prime Minister of Russia for three years.
