Putin complained about the gap between the rich and poor regions of Russia

The incomes of the five richest Russian regions are more than 40 times higher than the income of the fifs of the poorest. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting of the Security Council.

“The difference in the economic development of regions is still noticed, the trend of pulling the economy in the central regions of the country has not been overcome. This leads to imbalances in budgetary security. <...> The total income of the five richest and most poor regions differ by 43 times. And if we take the richest and most poor - I will not even say, there are hundreds of times there, ”the head of state noted.

Putin added that the government has developed a draft foundations of state policy of regional development of Russia until 2025. It is designed to help smooth out economic and social differences in the development of constituent entities of the Russian Federation.

“It is important to determine in the new document economic mechanisms that will help more fully implement the production, scientific, technological, educational, entrepreneurial potential of the regions, flexibly use their competitive advantages, create new growth points and thereby ensure the receipt of additional revenues to the budget,” Putin emphasized.

On September 20, the Kommersant newspaper wrote that the government to reduce the gap in the standard of living between the regions proposed to send part of the income tax as additional subsidies to low -income entities of the Russian Federation. As the publication indicated, the redistribution of tax revenues will occur, obviously, at the expense of the richest regions, primarily Moscow, as well as St. Petersburg, the Leningrad Region, the oil producing Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, the Tyumen region and Sakhalin.
