The world's largest container transportation operator will divide the business into two parts

The Danish group AP Moller-MARSK decided to divide the business into two independent companies. This is stated in the press release of the organization.

As a result of reorganization, in some units, on the one hand, the direction of transportation and logistics will be allocated, on the other hand, the oil and energy business.

The transport division will be organized on the basis of Maersk Line, the world's largest container transport operator in the world. It will also include subsidiaries APM Terminals, Damco, Svitzer and Maersk Container Industry.

The group’s energy division will unite Maersk Oil, Maersk Drilling, Maersk Supply Service and Maersk Tankers. This unit will focus on the extraction of hydrocarbons in the North Sea, primarily in Denmark, Great Britain and Norway.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the energy business can both remain as part of the Moller-MARSK group and be separated from it, among other things, by the formation of joint ventures or mergers with other companies.

The General Director of Moller-MARARSK will remain SENO STOU, who will also head the transportation and logistics unit. The head of the energy unit will be Klaus Hemmingen.

According to Reuters , reorganization in Moller-MARSK occurs against the background of a decrease in oil prices and a decline in the container transportation market. Earlier, the crisis in the transport industry led to the bankruptcy of the South Korean Hanjin Shipping, one of the largest players in the container transportation market.
