TsNIIMash employee sentenced to seven years in prison for treason

The Moscow City Court sentenced Vladimir Lapygin, an employee of the Central Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering, to seven years in prison in a strict regime colony in a case of high treason, Interfax reports citing the press service of the institution.

The verdict was announced on 6 September.

Lapygin was detained in May 2015. Since then, he has been under house arrest. The 66-year-old scientist was charged with cooperation with one of the Asian countries.

76-year-old scientist Vladimir Lapygin worked as a lecturer at Bauman Moscow State Technical University and at TsNIIMash, which is the head institute of Roscosmos. At the enterprise, he was the head of the center for the study of aerogasdynamics.
