The former chairman of the Council of Ministers of the self -proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic, Gennady Tsypkalov, was detained in the LPR in the case of an attempt to commit a coup and hanged himself soon after that. This was reported by Interfax with reference to the head of the Department for Supervision of Compliance with Laws in the Military Sphere of the General Prosecutor's Office of the LPR Sergey Rakhno.

"During the investigation, a preliminary circle of persons was established, who during repeated meetings during 2014-2016 agreed on the implementation of the displacement scenario, including with physical liquidation, the leadership of the republic in the person of the head of the republic, the first leaders of the Council of Ministers, the People’s Council, and the power structures of the republic," Rakhno said. He noted that during the investigation, one of the leaders of the People’s Police of the LPR, a certain Kiselev, who gave confession and called those involved in the attempt of the coup, was detained.

"Also, during the investigation, an adviser to the head of the LPR Tsypkalov was detained, with the participation of which the investigative actions were planned today, namely his interrogation as a suspect and a confrontation with the participation of the detainee Kiselev, as well as the election of a preventive period for him for the period of investigation. In connection with the presence of operational information about the attempt of the indicated detained persons by other participants in the conspiracy, detained were detained. One of the administrative buildings of the authorities of the LPR, ”Rakhno said.

According to Rakhno, Tsypkalov "realized the depth of his criminal actions." In addition, he realized that his information about the conspiracy became dangerous for his life. The representative of the LPR prosecutor’s office called the motive for the suicide of Tsykpkalov a fear that the conspirators remaining free will kill him.

Tsypkalov headed the LPR government from August 26, 2014 to December 26, 2015.

On August 6, a car of the head of the LPR Igor Plotnitsky was blown up in Lugansk. He and another person were injured and were hospitalized. It was later reported that the condition of the carpentry is satisfactory, "his life and health, as well as the health of people who have suffered with him, does not threaten nothing."
