Moscow demanded that the US authorities return to the homeland of the last Russian Russian Ravil Mingazov. This was stated by the authorized Foreign Ministry of Russia on human rights, democracy and the rule of law Konstantin Dolgov, RBC reports .

"We proceed from the fact that it must be sent to our homeland to Russia. We have repeatedly brought all the appropriate argument to American colleagues," Dolgov said. The representative of the Foreign Ministry called on the US authorities to "close this shameful page", referring to Guantanamo.

In 2002, Mingazov was detained in a shelter in Pakistan with Abu Zubaidah. The latter is considered an intermediary of the al-Qaeda terrorist group, it is also contained in Guantanamo. In the United States, 48-year-old Mingazov was accused of fought against the Northern Alliance on the side of the Taliban movement in Afghanistan. According to American investigators, it may be associated with an extremist group in Uzbekistan adjacent to Al-Qaeda.

In July, the US Interdepartmental Commission examined the case of Mingazov and decided that it could be transferred to another place of content. The deadlines and the place where the prisoner will be transferred, were not indicated in the decision. To date, Mingazov continues to remain in Guantanamo.

Mingazov’s lawyers asked the US authorities to send him Great Britain, where his son and ex -wife, who received political asylum, live.

The Pentagon reported that Mingazov did not want to return to Russia. Earlier, Moscow also demanded his release and return to his homeland. The US Ministry of Defense reported that the prisoner "despises the Russian authorities" and is afraid that in Russia they would be charged with him. According to Mingazov, they treat him better in Guantanamo than they would treat in Russia.

In 2004, the US authorities issued seven of the eight of the eight Russian citizens who fought in Afghanistan on the side of the Taliban - Shamil Khazhiev, Ravil Gumarov, Rasul Kudaev, Ruslan Odigov, Ravil Mingazov, Ayrat Vakhitov, Rustam Akhmerov and Timur Ishmuradov. Upon arrival in Russia, they were placed in different insulators in the territory of the Stavropol Territory. “He was charged with three articles of the Criminal Code - an illegal crossing of the border, mercenarism and participation in the criminal community. But it is possible that the charges against him will undergo a change in the investigation,” said Sergey Fridinsky Deputy Prosecutor General.

The question of Mingazov’s extraction was postponed until the end of the investigation conducted by the American intelligence services.
