Short photo and video messaging service Snapchat plans to release sunglasses with a built-in video camera. This was announced in an interview with WSJ by the head of the company, Evan Spiegel.
The cost of the device, called the Spectacles, will be $129.99. The glasses will go on sale in autumn 2016 and will be available in three frame colors.
The glasses will be able to record a 10-second video. To start recording, you will need to press the button located on the side of the frame.
The glasses are equipped with a wide-angle camera that will allow you to record video with a viewing angle of 115 degrees. The device can be synced with your phone to share videos primarily on Snapchat.
Snapchat changed its name to Snap Inc ahead of its launch to the glasses market, Spiegel said. The new name, he explained, should demonstrate that the company is now more than just a Snapchat app.
"We're going to slowly bring them [to the market]," Spiegel said of the Spectacles. “We have to see how they fit into people's lives, how much they like them” (English).
