1996 Kagalnitskaya tragedy

Twenty years ago, on September 26, 1996, in the Kagalnitsky district of the Rostov region, a school bus driver tried to slip through an unregulated railway crossing in heavy fog. The bus collided with the train. Of the 40 passengers, 21 children and 1 adult died. Another five people became disabled. Both the bus driver and train driver were initially found guilty of the collision, but the driver was acquitted three years later.
