The authorities of Monaco denied Russia to extradite the co -owner of "Vneshprombank"

Monaco’s authorities refused the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation to extradite the former co-owner of the bankrupt “Vneshprombank” (VPB) and the ex-president of the Russian Federation Bobslei and Skeleton Georgy Bedzhamov, accused in the motherland of almost 1 billion rubles.

According to the newspaper Kommersant, the Secretary General of the Prosecutor General of the Monaco Galleko General’s Office, the decision to refuse to extradite the Principality of the Principality of the Principality on July 12. Recently it was approved by the head of state, Prince Albert II. The reason was the state of health of Bedzhamov, who underwent heart surgery.

The Russian General Prosecutor General’s Office explained that so far no official documents from Monaco were received on this subject. In turn, Russian lawyer Georgy Bedzhamov Sergey Belchich refused to comment on the decision of the Monaco court. He also did not answer questions about the well -being of his client and his current location.

Bedzhamov was detained by the Monaco police on April 21, as he was on the international wanted list initiated by the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. Initially, he was placed in a local prison, which, according to the conditions of the detention of prisoners, is more like a fashionable hotel, the newspaper writes. However, soon the suspect was released on bail. On September 19, Forbes, citing sources among the bank creditors, reported that Bedzhamov left Monaco and moved to London.

"Kommersant" does not exclude that the decision of the Monaco authorities was partly affected by the long -standing acquaintance of the ruling prince with George Bedzhamov as the former head of the Russian Federation of Bobsley and Skeleton. Albert II is a member of the International Olympic Committee and himself participated in Bobsli competitions at five Olympiads in 1988-2002.

The banker was put on an international wanted list in March. He was charged in the case of the withdrawal of assets from Vesprombank in the amount of about 1 billion rubles. As part of this case, in December 2015, the sister of Bedzhamova, the president and co -owner of Vneshprombank Larisa Marcus, was arrested in Moscow. The request for Extradition by Bedzhamov was sent by the Russian Prosecutor General in mid -May.
