Every fall I have a dream with fish.
These are striped fish-bells. There are five or six of them in the picture. They froze among rare underwater stones and green algae.
In a dream, I have tracing paper. I need to put it on the picture and draw these fish, and stones, and greens, and small air bubbles. Then transfer everything to a clean sheet and paint.
But I can't do it. Because I have neither simple nor colored pencils. There is no go and no sharpener.
I forgot the pencil case at home.
Around me, the class creaks and rustles me with papers. The gentle blue surface of the desks is smooth and cool, and it seems that pictures with fish are enclosed in it, as if in an aquarium. I peer tensely into every detail. Elena Vasilievna is worth me - a dry woman with a sharp face and a cloud of soft brown hair. She looks like some kind of bird-with this nose and a long neck. On ostrich, as I understand now.
It has a strict pencil skirt and a jacket with impressive shoulders. She is perplexed how you can forget the pencil case. She, of course, asks if I had forgotten my head at home. She cannot believe that a normal person is able to appear at school without a pen, pencil and sharpeners. She screams that I am not ready for the lesson. That I reacted irresponsibly to the task. That no one but me allowed himself such an outrageous attitude to drawing fish.
I am seven years old. I am very scared and with difficulty asking:
- Can I draw them at home?
Elena Vasilievna waves her hands, as if she wants to fly over and pecking me, but only rumbles:
- At home?! No, frantic! You will never be able to draw these fish now!
I know that I want to answer her, but the words do not come from me.
And only waking up already, muttering in my hearts:
- Yes, and x ** with them! X ** with them! X ** with them!

Well, now about good.
After the failure of the exams, they gave me a second chance. Tomorrow there will be an interview in mathematics. Thanks to the mother. She already got the entire selection committee. She says she has a brilliant child. I don’t understand why she got it. The selection committee, it seems, also does not understand. True, I am still not sure that I want to study at this school. Rather-at the Physical and Technical Lyceum at the Institute of Atomic Energy. But here is the daughter of Aunt Natasha, and Aunt Natasha says that this is the best school in the city, and all teachers - people of science and graduates also become people of science. And she also says that this is a school for good children. No one offends anyone there. I would like my friends to have friends. But I'm not sure that I can become a man of science. Grandmother Anya says that it is very difficult to even become a person and that I may not succeed.

Everything was just terrible. In addition to me, five more boys were sent for an interview. Everyone went into the office and after five minutes flew out of there, with shaking hands. It was my turn. In the office there was a man with a beard. Very strict. He gave me a leaflet with a task and indicated where to sit down. A woman sat next to me, and at first I was glad that it would not be a man with a beard to check me. But everything without him turned out badly. At first she was silent, and then suddenly she began to make comments, which she interfered very much. For example, she said to some of my action that "such an elementary was known to the ancient Egyptians." These Egyptians were very alarmed, I lost and could not write anything else. I will not enter anywhere. I will stay in my terrible school. And I will not have friends. Even Vali Fedkina has a girlfriend. And Vali Fedkina, by the way, will be chopped off.
I'm not sure that I can become a person of science. Grandmother Anya says that I may not even succeed in becoming a person.

I just returned from the ruler. I am now an excellent student. I still can’t believe that Olga Fedorovna still put me five in the Russian language. For so many years I fought with this only four. True, it seems to me that she put this five in parting. And she also said that the choice of school is not a choice of life. I don’t know what she meant.
I didn't like the ruler. Some woman performed from the rostrum and read a long, tedious speech. They said someone from the city administration. I don’t remember at all how letters were given to us. I have never faced so many people. It’s good that I will not see any of them anymore. And it’s good that you will not need to go to this school again. I was very bad in her.

I have not written anything here for a long time. Summer went fine. As usual. I read books about vampires and fan fiction on Harry Potter until my mother sent me to Ana's grandmother in the Ryazan village. Grandma is a teacher of mathematics. I am very sorry for the children who learn from her. She is cruel and merciless. And she also has a whole potato plantation on which she uses child labor. I would complain about her in the European Court of Human Rights if I knew how to do it. It still does not give me the book "100 great lovers". But I'm already 14 years old. I saw pornography! Even in the summer they were with my mother in St. Petersburg. On the trip I read the "perfumer" Zyuskind. Mother asked what this book is about, and I said that about perfumes. No need to disturb her. And tomorrow, by the way, to a new school. I'm worried. In addition, I did not have time to correct the figure during the summer.

There are 19 boys and only 7 girls in my new class. Very unusual. And the class teacher was a man with a beard. I will call him I.V. He seems to never smile at all. And he also speaks very quietly. I think he is strict. In general, it was the best first of September in my life. He was the director - a gray -haired man in a long leather jacket. And then the tenth graders sang “Cool you got into the FTS”, and I thought that everything was very cool. There are few classes: two eleventh, two tenths and two ninth. And the school is small at all. This is the building of the former kindergarten in the old part of the city. The desks are wooden, and the boards are blue and glass. I have never seen such boards. We were also told that diaries can not be made and that objects would go in pairs. During the classroom, I.V. I distributed the schedule. Everyone was indignant - physics almost every day. I.V. To this, he said: “Last year, the ninth grade for one day had three pairs of physics in a row. The students came to the director and complained. He brought the whole class to the street and three times ordered everyone to read the name of the school. ”
Really hit.
September 3, 2003
A biology teacher - a very thick woman - said that the skin of the lips inside the mouth is about the same as on the head of the penis. I really want to tell someone about this now, but I am uncomfortable. I will tell the next summer grandmother Ana. Let him already give this book about lovers.
September 5, 2003
And our geographer is a crest. Very gikaet and generally speaks and looks funny. I entered the classroom, we got up. And he will bargain:
- Cho got up? Sloves, or what?
No, he says, get up.
The desks are wooden, and the boards are blue and glass. I have never seen such boards.

The chemist ordered to throw away chemistry textbooks. He said they were for housewives. Until I tell my mother what is happening at school.
September 20, 2003
I seem to make friends with one girl from my class. We are sitting together. Her name is Alena. She also dyes her hair brightly. Only I have red, and she has red. And she is very thin, and she has sharp nails. She is very confident in herself. Not like me. I hope she will remain my friend and will not get into any big company started-usually everyone threw me like that.

In English we watched the film on Stephen King and wrote out their favorite phrases. Cool!
September 23, 2003
I don't know what to do. I received a three on the control of algebra. There are 15 doubles in the entire class, 5 three, 4 four and only one five. I am very afraid that I will no longer be an excellent student. But, it seems, it does not bother anyone here, and teachers relate to estimates with great neglect. And what will I say to mom? What would grandmother Anya say? She would probably not have believed that people of science may not take care of assessments.
September 25, 2003
Our chemist has a mustache like my dad, only more. He today said that I was somewhat similar to his daughter, that her name is also Olga and that therefore he does not expect anything outstanding at the board from me. This is very good, because I don't like chemistry at all. He also jokes gloomily all the time. Maybe my dad also knows how to joking gloomily, but I don't know anything about it. He does not really talk to me. I would like to be able to joking gloomily.
-... This phenomenon is called corpuscular wave dualism.
-What kind of moron?
- But we will talk about moronism when I check your control.
October 8, 2003
I have not written for a long time. Everything is fine, but there are a lot of physicists and mathematicians. I study until late at night, but still I can’t knock myself a single four. So far, only deuces and triples. I'm not talking about my mother, because she will yell. I’m not telling my father either - he is busy all the time and does not even remember in which class I am. Alenka today said that I like her friend of her boyfriend, Vita. This is such a high eleventh grader.
I ask her:
- And what to do now? (Nobody never liked me.)
“Wait when he comes to you,” said Alenka.
Very anxious.
October 10, 2003
Alenka gave Vita my phone. What if he calls? And what will I tell him?
October 16, 2003
Today was a school conference. Everyone made reports. I have not heard anything. I could not concentrate. The classmate Masha said that Vitya looked at me all the time. My anxiety is growing. All this is very time.
* * *
I called. We agreed to meet near the museum. God.
* * *
For two hours we walked. At first it was a little embarrassed, but then they somehow talked. Spended home and kissed. Probably, this means that we are now meeting.
The question "And what to do now?" It costs more than ever.
Vitya was waiting for me after physics. I wanted to hug. But then I.V. "What are you doing here?" Vitya looked at him very brazenly and said: "I explain the theory of the donor-certificate mechanism."
October 27, 2003
Vitya said he loved me. This is very pleasant, but how did he understand that? Maybe I love him too, but I don’t know how to determine it. You need to ask Alenka, she knows everything.
October 29, 2003
Alenka advises some kind of nonsense. I suspect that she is not as experienced as she wants to seem. Due to stupid experiences, I do not have time to do enough. We talk with Vitya by phone for a long time. I never figured out what to do with all these deuces and triples. It seems to me, I.V. I am very unhappy with me, but says nothing. He only looks piercingly, as if he sees through. How scary.
November 1, 2003
Today there was an unpleasant scene. Vitya was waiting for me after physics on the stairs between the first and second floor. I wanted to hug. But then I.V. As usual - in all black, with this impenetrable face.
- What are you doing here?
Vitya looked at him very brazenly and said:
-I explain the theory of the donor-certificate of mechanism.
I.V. He said nothing.
I am still all red.
I have a bad foreboding.

The Russian teacher said that young Pushkin owned the ideas of murder and revenge. Great!
November 17, 2003
They asked the house to come up with a political party. I don't understand anything about it. Mother too. I had to go to my father. He asked which class I was in, then he proposed the PZP - "Party of Protection of the President."
- What to protect him from? - I ask.
- From small business and pensioners.
Some kind of nonsense.
November 20, 2003
I walked school. For the first time. With Vitya. It is very cold to kiss in the entrance.
November 25, 2003
This is the end. Everything was revealed. Mother found out about deuces and three, but now this is nonsense. I.V. At the parent meeting, he said that I and Alenka are engaged in the walls of the school with debauchery. So he said - debauchery. How dare he! Kisses are not debauchery. And when will I kiss later? At the university? Outrageous. But worse than that: he said that he was even afraid to think of what we are doing outside of school.
Mother burst home like angry bans and yelled, shouted, screaming.
She claims that I disgraced her.
Vermzky I.V.
Scoundrel.
I am taking possession of the ideas of murder and revenge.
November 26, 2003
She told Vita that I do not like him. His voice was strange after that. I no longer want to be a person of science at all.
Some people do not just remain in memory, but are woven into it in a strange way. For example, my geometry teacher - Alexander Ivanovich - periodically pops up in my head in such amazing circumstances that he himself would be extremely surprised to learn about them: I saw him with Pugachev in the “Captain's daughter”, and a muttering peasant leaning over Anna Karenina, and even Levius Matvey in Master and Margarita. In other words, any character with a dark beard suddenly became Alexander Ivanovich.
He was a dark -skinned low man with thick eyebrows and a piercing look. It was monstrously carried tobacco from him, and at the beginning of the lesson this bitter suffocating smell first entered the class, and then, shuffling, he appeared. Nobody called Alexander Ivanovich by the eyes by name-patronymic or surname. His name was delirium, because he could not explain anything at least somewhat clear. His speech was quiet, confused and intermittent. He muttered something there in his beard and wrote finely on the board, but then he asked strictly and even cruelly. In his eyes-dark and running-there was something rogue. He often found out: he could have set a hundred tasks to his house and promise that there would be some reward to those who decided, and when the pale, who did not sleep the class gave him piles of sheets, he suddenly said that he did not remember the tasks and could not give promises.
In my fate, he played a very strange role and, I would even say, mystical, although he himself, I am sure, did not notice anything like that.
It was at the end of May, almost in the summer. At school, on such days, the approximation of the holidays was acutely felt, and everyone seemed to be kinder. Even our class teacher changed his dark clothes on light shirts and vests and seemed less strict.
But that year, the approach of summer did not please me that year. I walked gloomy and preoccupied. Very soon it was necessary to decide which universities I would enter and what exams to prepare. It was necessary to look for tutors. For most in our physical and mathematical school, this was not a problem: everyone knew that there was a circle of Moscow universities where it was worth submitting documents for technical specialties. The university in our city, to which the school itself was attributed, was considered good.
But only I had no confidence about what I want to devote my life.
I already knew for sure that I did not want to continue the study of physics, because the tasks on it were difficult for me. “The body is at the top of the building, the upper floors of which are in space,” I read. And then she wondered how this body turned out there, why they built such a skyscraper and to whom such a wild plot of the task occurred. The solution to these issues did not give answers, and I missed a lot.
In a completely different way, I belonged to algebra and geometry. I liked working with numbers, lines and figures. I liked the cold logic of these objects, their honesty and beauty. Therefore, I carefully thought about applied mathematics. But certainty did not come. “Do I have a talent for anything? I thought at night. -If only everything somehow clarified. If only a sign had happened. ”
The sign happened.
The geometry exam was one of the last. I learned all the tickets, solved a huge number of problems and felt quite confident. I really wanted to get four, or even five.
That day was very warm. The class flooded the sun. Brad fussyly laid out tickets at the department. I pulled out a piece of paper at number three and sat at the desk. Theoretical issues were completely simple, and I also solved the first two tasks quite quickly. The last one remained. That task was very long, with a large number of different conditions. It is amazing that I do not remember her all, given what happened later, but only the main thing was preserved in my memory - it was necessary to find a mystery figure and determine its proportions. I took a pure notebook leaf into the cage, beautifully brought “Dano” and “Find”, and then wrote “Solution”. And then the strange thing happened to me. Looking at the leaf cages, I suddenly seemed to see some point in them, then another and more. These points were distributed on the cells, lay on them smoothly and accurately - lay down as the word rises in place. I took a pencil and connected them with lines. There was a pyramid in front of me.
- Well, mad, what? - Brad stood very close, and I was immediately shrouded in the smell of tobacco.
“Here,” I said, deviating as far as possible.
- What? And the last where is the task? Still take time?
- No, here.
- Pyramid. Right. And where are the lengths of the ribs, corners?
I, as if in a trance, wrote several numbers on a leaf. I knew everything about this pyramid.
- Um. Right. And the solution?
“I ... in my mind decided.”
Brad stared at me. I was not afraid that he would ask me an explanation, because they were all from somewhere in my head. I felt that something important happened to me and it would be about to be clear what I needed and who should I be. This feeling was so strong that I really wanted to share it.
- No.
- Why?
- Don't know.
