A resident of Novy Urengoy protesting against turning off the heating is threatened with taking away his children

Musa Mammadov, a resident of house 57 on Zvezdnaya Street in Novy Urengoy, who is protesting against turning off water and heating, is being taken away from his children, the OVD-Info hotline was told.

Employees of the guardianship authorities came to him and announced their intention to take away his children, aged 5 and 10, because of the unsuitable conditions in his house. Shortly before this, Mammadov appealed to the prosecutor's office with a complaint about the actions of local authorities. A similar situation happened a year ago, Mammadov told OVD-Info. Then, after turning off the light and complaining about it to the prosecutor's office, the guardianship authorities also came to the family with threats that they would take the children away.

At the end of September, Musa Mammadov hung a protest poster on his house and began a hunger strike against the shutdown of water and heat in his house, which was declared unsafe back in 2012. Local authorities have not provided other housing to residents of the emergency house so far. In addition to Mammadov's children, about ten minor children from different families live in the house.

On September 29, Musa and Ibragim Mammadov, residents of the house, as well as journalists Alexei Kryzhanovsky and Zhanna Belik, who were reporting on the problem, were detained. The Mammadovs were released from the police, taking explanations, a case was opened against the journalists under the administrative article 20.2 (violation of the procedure for holding a public event). Yesterday, Belik and Kryzhanovsky were to have a trial, the results of which are still unknown by OVD-Info.
