Putin signed a decree on Markin's dismissal

Major General of Justice Vladimir Markin, by decree of the President, was dismissed from the post of head of the department of interaction with the media of the Investigative Committee. The document is published on the official Internet portal of legal information.

Markin commented on his resignation with the words of Igor Talkov’s song “I will be back”. “Enemies sigh in relief, and friends say:“ Tired ”. Both are mistaken, this is a halt,” he wrote on his Twitter.

After the resignation, Markin will go to work at RusHydro, where he will take the position of First Deputy General Director of the Energy Holding. He reported this to TASS.

Markin filed a resignation report on September 21. On September 7, he presented at the International Moscow Book Exhibition-Fair his first book from the cycle "Secrets of the Investigative Committee", which describes the investigations of five high-profile criminal cases. On the same day, the journalist of Novaya Gazeta Nadezhda Prussenkova said that Markin borrowed fragments of her article on the investigation of the murder of Politkovskaya, published for two years. Moreover, he did this without the permission of the editorial office of the "new" and an indication of open sources.

Markin in response stated that the coincidences were due to the description of "the same specific circumstances recorded by the materials of the criminal case and voiced in court." At the same time, he called Prussenkov "to anyone but his swamp, not known and unnecessary journalist", which "wants to promote on his name."

However, on September 8, Markin apologized to Prussenkova . “Yesterday it was a very emotional day, I consider it my duty to apologize to the journalist of Novaya Gazeta,” Markin wrote. “I publicly apologize to the hope of Prussenkova, who was offended as a woman and journalist unusual for me with a rude statement.”

On September 15, journalist Ilya Barabanova accused Markin of plagiarism . Some fragments of Markin’s book about the Politkovskaya case are completely, up to punctuation marks, repeat the article “How Anna Politkovskaya was killed”, published in The New Times on December 22, 2008.

Later, the Eksmo Publishing House, which released the book of Markin, explained the lack of references of the “technical error” and apologized to Markin and “authors of publications in the media, excerpts from which were included in the book without links to sources”.
