220 years ago, on October 9, 1796, Sergey Ivanovich Muravyov-Apostol, one of the leaders of the Decembrists' movement, was born. In January 1826, after the arrest of the head of the Southern Society of Pavel Pestel and the failure of the uprising in St. Petersburg, Lieutenant Colonel Muravyov-Apostle led the uprising of the Chernihiv regiment.
