2006 First nuclear explosion in North Korea

Ten years ago, on October 9, 2006, North Korea conducted its first nuclear test. A report from the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said, "Our research unit has safely and successfully carried out an underground nuclear test... The nuclear test has become a historic event that has brought happiness to our military and people. The nuclear test will contribute to maintaining peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula and in the surrounding area." The explosion of the North Korean atomic bomb was condemned by all the leading states of the world, including Russia.
