
About 100 American medical associations received money from Coca-Cola and Pepsico for help in lobbying for the interests of sweet carbonated drink manufacturers.
This conclusion was reached by scientists of Boston University Daniel Aaron and Michael Siegel, their study was published in the journal American Journal of Preventive Medicine. It is based on the analysis of sponsorship and donor contracts of both companies with non -governmental healthcare organizations
According to Aaron and Siegel, Coca-Cola and Pepsico from 2011 to 2015, the campaign was conducted against 29 bills aimed at reducing the consumption of sweet soda in the United States. The authors of the study believe that the companies also used good relations with healthcare organizations to improve the image of their brands.
Scientists say that annually Coca-Cola and Pepsi spend a total of $ 9 million on such activities.
Coca-Cola and Pepsico did not respond to the request of The Washington Post (WP) regarding research. The American Association of Drinking Manufacturers to the newspaper said that companies that are part of the Association are densely dealing with public health and have long -standing traditions of supporting relevant organizations.
