The Moscow District Military Court refused to release from the arrest a student of Moscow State University Alexander Ivanov (Barbar Karaulov), accused of trying to join the Islamic State terrorist organization. This is reported by Interfax.

The judicial board rejected the petition of the lawyer of the defendant Sergei Badamshin. He asked to change the measure of restraint to any other, not related to deprivation of liberty.

The collegium did not agree with the arguments of the lawyer that Ivanova, being in custody, was experiencing physical and moral suffering, and her rights to defense were violated. “The court takes into account that Ivanova is accused of a particularly serious crime, given the severity, nature and degree of public danger, the court comes to the conclusion about the impossibility of applying a different mildest preventive measure to it,” the judge announced the decision.

On October 5, in the Moscow District Military Court, chaired by Judge Alexander Ababkov, hearings on the merits of the Karaulova case began. The prosecutor read out the indictment. It says that Karaulova on the Internet mixer "made contact with an unidentified person" to join the Badr group - one of the structures of the IG under the command of a certain Abdul Khakin. Having become a member of the Badr, the indictment says, the student "could carry out sabotage activities in Syria and Europe by self -breaks." The prosecutor noticed that Karaulova knows foreign languages ​​and has combat training.

Karaulova refused to plead guilty . “As the accusation reates with me,” the defendant said. “I haven’t entered anywhere, I am not a terrorist and was not going to become in any case. When these words about suicide bombers sound, I don’t know what the word to choose ... In general, it’s hard to listen to all this.” Karaulova also expressed bewilderment in connection with a statement about the presence of combat training she had. "What is combat training, what is it about?" she said.

Preliminary hearings in the Karaulova case were held on September 22 . At them, Ababkov, at the request of the prosecutor, extended the accused by the pre -trial detention center until December 13. The prosecutor also insisted on conducting a closed process. He indicated that in the case there are materials that make up a state secret. However, Ababkov rejected this petition.

In May 2015, a 19-year-old Karaulov wardrobe left the house . As it turned out, she was carried away by the ideas of radical Islam, but kept her beliefs secret from her parents. Eyewitnesses claimed that after leaving the house, the student changed into hijab.

On June 4, Karaulov was detained in Kilis, and a week later they delivered to Moscow.

The Investigative Committee conducted a preliminary investigation on the facts of the possible participation of Karaulova in the activities of the extremist community and its recruitment. According to the results of the audit, at the end of July 2015, he refused to initiate the case against the student. After that, she changed her name and surname, receiving documents in the name of Alexandra Ivanova.

Meanwhile, the FSB on October 23, 2015 opened a case against the student under Part 1 of Article 30 - Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code (preparation for participation in the activities of a terrorist organization). Given part 2 of Article 66 of the Criminal Code (sentencing for an unfinished crime), Karaulova threatens up to five years in the colony.

On October 27, the suspect was detained, and the next day the Lefortovo District Court arrested her . The student is contained in the pre-trial detention center-2 of the central headquarters of the FSIN "Lefortovo", unofficially controlled by the FSB.

On February 8, 2016, it became known that Karaulova refused confessions . According to her, in Syria she was traveling to her beloved man, and not for joining IG.

At the end of February, Karaulova’s defense filed a complaint with the ECHR . Lawyers accused Russia of violating articles 5 (the right to freedom and personal integrity) and 6 (the right to a fair trial) of the European Convention.
