The diplomat noted that his words reflect the reaction of the official Hanoi to the recent publications of a number of Russian media that Russia is considering the possibility of restoring its former military bases abroad - Kamran in Vietnam and Lourdes in Cuba.

On October 7, Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia Nikolai Pankov said that the military department was considering the possibility of returning military bases to countries where they were located during the Soviet Union. “We are engaged in this work. We see this problem,” he said, answering the question of whether the military department plans to return to bases in Vietnam and Cuba.

For the restoration of the Russian military bases in Latin America, Southeast Asia and Africa, the deputy chairman of the State Duma committee on international affairs Alexei Chepa spoke. "It is necessary to consider the issue of our presence in other regions of the world," the parliamentarian said. “I believe that the national interests of Russia would be the restoration of our previously closed military bases in Latin America, Southeast Asia and Africa,” Chepa emphasized.

Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov noted that the possible placement of Russian military bases in Cuba and Vietnam is associated with the latest changes in the international situation and the international security regime.
