On Borovitskaya Square, Moscow, next to the Kremlin on Sunday, began the installation of a giant monument to the Kyiv Grand Duke Vladimir Svyatoslavich. This is reported by Interfax.

The official opening of the monument is scheduled for November 4, when the "Day of National Unity" is celebrated.

Borovitskaya Square is included in the buffer zone of the Moscow Kremlin and Red Square, included as a single object in the World Heritage List. The installation of a huge monument was concerned with UNESCO.

In January 2016, the International Council for the preservation of monuments and sights - the advisory body of the World Organization - did not recommend the Russian authorities to erect a monument on Borovitskaya Square. It was noted that this "can have negative consequences" for the Kremlin as an object of the World Heritage.

It was later reported that if the monument on the Borovitskaya, the Kremlin may be excluded from the World Heritage List.

Nevertheless, in the spring it was stated that the monument would nevertheless be erected on Borovitskaya . At the same time, officials assured, UNESCO recommendations would be taken into account.

On June 29, the Ministry of Culture said that the Deputy General Director of UNESCO on culture issues Francesco Bandarin completely approved the latest amendments to the project of the monument to Vladimir. In particular, it was reported that, in agreement with the international organization, the height of the statue was reduced - from 25 to 16 meters - as well as adjustments to the project for the arrangement of the territory around the monument.

However,in UNESCO this information was refuted . It was claimed that the examination of the new version of the project with the international organization has not been agreed, and UNESCO advisory structures have not yet presented additional comments. Meanwhile, noted in UNESCO, the comments should be taken into account by the state "before the adoption of any decisions that would be difficult to cancel."
