In northwestern Syria, the rebels captured the city of Dabiq, which since 2014 has been under the control of the militants of the terrorist "Islamic State". This was stated by a representative of the group, which operates with the support of Turkey.

Information about the capture of Dabiq was confirmed by the human rights organization Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The city of Dabiq is mentioned in Islamic prophecy as a possible site of a battle between Muslims and Romans (Christians) that would precede the end of the world. As noted by Reuters, in the United States, the capture of Dabiq was seen as an opportunity to lower morale in the IS in anticipation of an offensive against the largest cities captured by terrorists, Iraqi Mosul and Syrian Raqqa.

On October 15, the Turkish news agency Anadolu reported that the United States began shelling and bombing ISIS positions in the Mosul area. The agency was told about this by a representative of the military formations of the Iraqi Kurds. According to him, IS militants began burning tires and oil so that the smoke worsened visibility for the international coalition bombers.

Representatives of the US military did not confirm this information. A spokesman for the US Department of Defense said that "a full-scale offensive has not yet begun."
