20 Serbs were detained in Montenegro on suspicion of preparing terrorist attacks

20 Serbs were detained in Montenegro on suspicion of armed attacks on election day, reports Associated Press.

Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić said the country's interior minister had informed him of the detentions. He declined to comment and promised to give details on Monday, when parliamentary elections are over in the country.

Montenegrin police chief Slavko Stojanovic said earlier on Saturday a group of people from Serbia who had crossed the border had been detained. In Montenegro, they planned to get machine guns and launch attacks on state institutions, police stations and, possibly, shoot at representatives of the Montenegrin authorities.

The detainees were charged with "creating a criminal community" and terrorism. One of those who crossed the border was not caught, and is currently hiding from the security forces.

According to the Montenegrin TV channel PINK M, one of the suspects is the former head of the Serbian Gendarmerie Bratislav "Bata" Dikic, and that the members of the group had an arsenal of weapons and explosives.

The Associated Press notes that on the eve of the elections there were fears that the results of the vote would lead to clashes between the opposition and those who support the current government. The elections will decide in which direction the country will move - whether to continue rapprochement with Europe or turn to Russia as an ally.
