A rally was held in a closed city near Tomsk against job cuts at the Rosatom plant.

In the Tomsk region, residents of the closed city of Seversk held a rally against the closure of production at the Siberian Chemical Plant, which is part of the Rosatom fuel company TVEL OJSC, Interfax reports .

According to the organizer of the meeting, City Duma deputy Viktor Treguba, about 500 people came to express their protest. However, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Tomsk region claims that the number of participants in the event did not exceed 250 people. As a result of the meeting, local authorities sent a resolution to Rosatom management with a request to preserve jobs at the enterprise and create a government commission to develop a plan for the further development of the city.

The possible closure of the isotope separation plant of the Siberian Chemical Combine (SCC) by TVEL became known after the management announced that the equipment would be sent to another Rosatom facility to continue research.

After this, a petition appeared on the Internet on behalf of the plant’s employees, which spoke of the risk of closing the isotope separation plant due to the stoppage of centrifuges and, as a result, the closure of the entire SCC “in the next five to seven years.” However, the management of the plant denied the possible closure of the plant.

“Representatives of the management company answered questions from ZRI employees and emphasized that no decision was made to close the plant: the isotope separation plant of the Siberian Chemical Plant will continue to operate,” the Siberian Chemical Combine noted in a press release.

The Siberian Chemical Combine in Seversk unites five plants for handling nuclear materials and a thermal power plant. One of the main directions of the plant’s work is the production of thermal and electrical energy.
