Do not open the minimum wage

The government postponed an increase in the minimum wage from January 1, 2017 to July 1. This is reported by Interfax. Then the minimum wage will be raised by 4 percent - from the current 7,500 rubles to 7800. As the head of the Ministry of Labor Maxim Topilin explained, 4 percent is the forecast level of inflation in the next year.

As RBC noted , the last four years have been raised from January 1, and by a larger value. This year, however, its amount was increased twice - January 1 and July 1. In July, the minimum wage increased by almost 21 percent - by 1296 rubles.

Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets continues, in September, she promised that the closest increase would occur precisely on January 1 and would be more than 17 percent, so that the amount of the minimum wage would reach 8,800 rubles.

Today, the minimum wage is only 70 percent of the subsistence level, although the Labor Code adopted back in 2002 requires to equalize the first value with the second. Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev stated that this may be possible to achieve by 2020.

According to Golodets, 4.8 million inhabitants of Russia have a salary at the minimum wage level.
