Seven suspects of involvement in the Tablighi Jamaat religious movement were detained

Seven people suspected of involvement in the Tablighi Jamaat religious movement have been detained in Tatarstan. This is stated in the message of the Interfax agency with reference to the republican department of the FSB.

A case has been opened on the activities of an extremist organization. According to the agency, the case contains Part 2 of Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code, that is, only participation in activities (according to part 1 of article 282.2 of the Criminal Code, organizers are prosecuted). It is reported that in Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny, Almetyevsk, Aznakaevo, as well as in Rybno-Slobodsky, Kukmorsky and Sabinsky, searches were carried out at 39 addresses, where 34 leaders and active members of the cell were allegedly located.

During the searches, “a significant amount of extremist printed matter, notebooks with handwritten texts, and other documentary materials were confiscated, reflecting the systemic anti-Russian and anti-constitutional nature of the activities of the members of the group, its structure and composition, as well as testifying to their propaganda of aggressive and non-traditional Islam for Tatarstan”, transfers the agency information from the FSB department.

Experts from the SOVA Information and Analytical Center, which monitors persecution under extremist articles, believe that the Tablighi Jamaat movement was unlawfully recognized as extremist, since it was not noticed in calls for violence.
