"According to official figures, more than 700 thousand terminations of pregnancy are committed annually in Russia, unofficial abortion statistics - more than five million a year. We commit bloody crimes equal to losses in the Great Patriotic War," the organizers said.

The action was attended by State Duma deputy Vitaly Milonov, the governor of the Sretensky monastery Bishop Egorievsky Tikhon (Shevkunov), considered the "confessor of Vladimir Putin", Archpriest Andrei Tkachev. The event was conducted by TV presenter Boris Korchevnikov.

At the moment, more than 300 thousand signatures have been collected. In total, the initiators of the action plan to collect a million signatures, which will then be transferred to the federal authorities.

Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov did not comment on proposals on the ban on abortion and betabin-boxes. “The Kremlin does not take part in this discussion,” he said. “I would not call some position now, because public discussion is being conducted, no decisions have been made, there are diametrically opposite points of view, and quite reasoned.” When asked whether the position of the Russian Orthodox Church will be taken into account by the Kremlin, Peskov said: "The Russian Orthodox Church is one of the participants in this discussion. I repeat once again: there are different points of view - someone agrees with the Russian Orthodox Church, someone is not. I repeat, this is not a question of our agenda."

On September 28, the Minister of Health Veronika Skvusov said that the withdrawal of abortions from the compulsory medical insurance system could create a threat to women's health . "There are certain nuances associated with the possible transition of abortion to the shadow, especially for those who have low wealth, for minors, girls who have such a situation. Our task is that the introduction of some restrictions does not lead to an increase in maternal and infant mortality," said Skvortsova.

The minister emphasized that the department he headed "as well as the Russian Orthodox Church and a large number of public organizations against abortion," but it is necessary to take into account the possible risks of the prohibition of the procedure. “The history of our country already knew this, and I want to remind you that during an acute ban on abortion in Soviet times, maternal mortality exceeded 320 by 100 thousand people.
