The former emir of Qatar died

Former Emir Katar Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Tanya died at the age of 84. It is reported by Al Arabiya.

The current leader of the country Sheikh Tamim Ben Hamad Al Tanya announced a three -day mourning.

Caliph bin Hamad Al Tanya was the head of state for more than 20 years, from 1972 to 1995. He was the sixth emir of the country and the second representative of the Al Tanya dynasty.

In June 1995, during the coup, he was overthrown by his sons Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifoy Al-Tani, who, in turn, renounced the throne in favor of his son Sheikh Tamim Ben Hamad Al Tanya, who is heading Qatar today.
