
The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the discussion of the possible new sanctions of the European Union against Russia because of Syria “cynical” and “indecent”. It is reported by Interfax .
“Now Syria is already mentioned as another topic for which you can catch on Russophobes,” said Lavrov. - It is simply indecent, dishonorable and cynical. I hope everyone understands this. But how much this understanding will be taken into account when making specific decisions, how much this understanding can turn the absolutely obvious order in some capitals to strengthen anti -Russian policy, I cannot guess. ”
The European Union summit on October 21 did not adopt new sanctions against the Russian Federation for its actions in Syria. At the same time, according to Lavrov, the EU “is still not ready to develop pragmatic, which meets its own interests, the line in relation to our country,” RIA Novosti reports .
The fact that the EU is considering the option of introducing additional restrictions on Russia became known in October. In addition, new sanctions do not exclude the United States.
At the same time, as previously reported by The Washington Post, the Barack Obama administration opposes the adoption of the bill on the protection of the civilian population in Syria, which involves new measures to the Russian Federation.
The American White House indicated the newspaper, it is believed that the new sanctions will damage the “any future contacts” of Moscow and Washington regarding diplomatic negotiations on Syria.
