The Venezuela parliament, controlled by the opposition, voted for the beginning of the impeachment of the President Nicholas Maduro, reports Reuters .

“We will show Venezuela and the whole world that in this crisis the responsibility for violation of the constitution lies with Nicholas Maduro,” said the opposition leader Hulio Borges.

The National Assembly ordered Maduro to come to the next session, which will be held on November 1. Opponents of the president accuse him of destroying the national economy, which led to a lack of products and rising prices. Nicholas Maduro is also accused of trying to interfere with the referendum on his resignation.

The government, where the majority belongs to the supporters of Maduro, rejected this decision and called it “meaningless”. Vice President Aristobulo Irthuris noted that the legally National Assembly does not exist.

Venezuela's parliament announced his intention to shift from the post of Nicholas Maduro on charges of a coup on Sunday. This happened after the courts of seven states of the country canceled the results of the first stage of the collection of signatures for holding a referendum on Maduro's resignation.
