The Tagansky Court satisfied the claim of Roskomnadzor against LinkedIn Corporation, which manages the world's largest network of business contacts LinkedIn, follows from the text of the decision published on the court's website. The court recognized that LinkedIn falls under the Russian law on personal data: the network collects data from Russian users, violating the rights of citizens to privacy, personal and family secrets. The court ordered Roskomnadzor to include the website linkedIn.com in the register of violators of the law on personal data and oblige telecom operators to limit access to this resource.

Roskomnadzor filed its claim in June of this year, the court satisfied the department’s request on August 4. The decision states that it can be appealed within a month from the date of adoption. No counterclaims from LinkedIn Corporation were found on the court website. But another lawsuit from Roskomnadzor against LinkedIn was registered in the Moscow City Court on October 11.

Roskomnadzor, while monitoring the Internet, identified a violation of the rights of Russian citizens by LinkedIn, the court decision says. In particular, the provisions of the sixth article of the law were violated - that the collection of personal data of Russian citizens must be carried out with their consent. The law understands personal data as any information that directly or indirectly relates to a person.

The court also noted that any company collecting personal data of Russian citizens is obliged to store it in Russia.

The detected violation was confirmed by screenshots provided by Roskomnadzor, the court decision says, while the circumstances described by the plaintiff are not disputed by the defendant. However, the decision also states that representatives of LinkedIn Corporation did not come to the meeting, although the company was notified about it. Accordingly, the court considered the case in the absence of the defendant’s representatives, the document says. Comments could not be immediately reached on LinkedIn.

However, LinkedIn is still working. Employees of telecom operators interviewed by Vedomosti do not know about the blocking of this social network. According to them, operators receive notifications from the Roskomnadzor register about closing access to sites automatically and block the resource in a short time.

LinkedIn may be blocked in Russia
