The court confirmed the fine for oppositionist Leonid Volkov in the “microphone case”

On October 26, the Novosibirsk Regional Court dismissed an appeal filed by oppositionist Leonid Volkov in the case of damage to the microphone of a LifeNews journalist and thus upheld a fine of 30,000 rubles. Volkov wrote about this on his Twitter account.

Volkov, after paying the fine , intends to file a complaint against the verdict and apply to the European Court of Human Rights.

On August 31, the Central District Court of Novosibirsk sentenced Leonid Volkov to a fine of 30,000 rubles in the “microphone case”.

The criminal case against Volkov was opened in August 2015 - then he was the head of the Novosibirsk campaign headquarters of the Democratic Coalition. According to investigators, on July 17, 2015, the oppositionist prevented a correspondent from the LifeNews channel from filming Alexei Navalny near the building of the Novosibirsk branch of PARNAS, forced the journalist to refuse to disseminate information, “using violence”, grabbed the correspondent by the arm and damaged his microphone. This happened immediately after the attack on Navalny by activists of the NOD (“People’s Liberation Movement”), who threw eggs at Navalny. Lifenews journalist Alexander Postupinsky wanted to capture this moment as close as possible.
