The university program includes a discipline on the formation of Russian identity

The program of Russian universities may include a special discipline for the formation of Russian identity. According to RT, the representative of the Federal Agency for Nationalities Aykaz Mikaelyan announced this. The purpose of the program, as explained in the agency, is "to create a system that would educate a new generation, from preschoolers to quite adults, with the same set of value attitudes."

According to Mikaelyan, the provisions on a set of measures to form civil identity are already included in the resolution for the Ministry of Education. As Michaelyan notes, they include "general education, like school social studies, and a number of events that educational institutions will conduct for students during the year."

The press service of the Ministry of Education could not comment on this information.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Students' Rights in Russia, Artem Khromov, noted that a developed regulatory framework and special accreditation for the university is needed to introduce a new discipline on an obligatory basis.

At the same time, rectors do not yet see the need to introduce classes on patriotism without fail. “In our opinion, this is not a project of the educational standard. These are just some suggestions that can improve educational activities in higher education institutions. We will never be able to lead a sense of patriotism to a single denominator,” said the rector of the Moscow State Technical University of Civil Aviation Boris Eliseev.

According to him, the university already has a course on the formation of a civil aviation specialist similar to a new discipline. It includes optional disciplines, meetings with veterans and conversations with clergymen of various faiths on the topics of morality and family values. Eliseev is sure that this is quite enough.
