According to the voting results at the General Assembly session in the group from Eastern Europe, 112 countries voted for Russia, while Hungary won, which received 144 votes and Croatia with 114 votes.

In total, 14 members of the HRC for a three -year term began, starting on January 1. Egypt, Rwanda, Tunisia and South Africa went to the Council from the African group; from the countries of the Asia -Pacific region - Iraq, China, Saudi Arabia and Japan; from Latin American states - Brazil and Cuba; From the group of Western European and other countries - Great Britain and the USA.

The Human Rights Council is the intergovernmental body of the UN system, which includes 47 states responsible for protecting all human rights around the world.

On Monday, more than 80 human rights and humanitarian organizations signed a petition demanding that Russia be elected to the UN HRC because of its policy in Syria. "Russia's actions in Syria are clearly contrasting with its rhetorical statements about the commitment of human rights," the document said. Its authors noted that the veto of Russia for the UN Security Council resolution on the ceasefire in Aleppo and its support for air strikes in this city do not comply with the principles and goals of the HRC.

In this regard, the authors of the petition called on the member countries of the HRC to ask the question of whether Russia could be in the HRC, while pursuing such a policy in Syria.

The statement of the Council of the European Union adopted on October 17, the actions performed in the Aleppo regime of the Syrian dictator Bashar al -Assad and its allies, especially Russia, can be qualified as war crimes . Moscow, in particular, as a member of the International Syria support group, the EU Council called for the cessation of Aleppo bombing by the Assad troops, restore a violated truce, provide a humanitarian corridor, and create conditions for the transfer of power in Syria, deserving trust and ensuring the participation of all interested parties.
