The prosecutor returned Navalny's libel case for further investigation

The prosecutor has returned for further investigation the case of oppositionist Alexei Navalny about defamation of former investigator and figure on the Magnitsky list Pavel Karpov, lawyer Vadim Kobzev told TASS.

According to the lawyer, violations were discovered in the case materials that prevented its transfer to court.

Earlier, at the end of October, the defense, after familiarizing itself with the materials of the criminal case, asked to stop the prosecution of Navalny, arguing that his actions did not constitute a crime.

The case was opened in May under Article 128.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (slander). The former investigator claimed that the information about his property that Navalny published on his website and blog on Ekho Moskvy was untrue.

Pavel Karpov in the UK was sentenced in absentia to three months in prison for refusing to appear in court.

According to reports from colleagues of the late Hermitage Capital lawyer Sergei Magnitsky, he uncovered corruption schemes in which, among other things, Karpov participated. The former policeman also appeared in the film “The Untouchable Caste.”
