The FSB introduced "Aum Sinrikyo" to the register of terrorist organizations

The Aum Sinrikyo International Religious Association is included in the register of terrorist organizations that leads to the FSB. Now in this list there are 26 positions.

The basis was the decision of the Supreme Court. On September 20, the Armed Forces banned the activities of the Aum Sinrikyo association in Russia. Thus, the claim of the Prosecutor General’s Office received to the court on September 13 was satisfied. The case was listened in closed mode.

Aum Sinrikyo is a religious syncretic sect founded by Shoko Asahara. She gained wide fame after a terrorist act in the Tokyo metro station on March 20, 1995. In the course of five coordinated attacks, the sectarians sprayed the poisoning gas of Zarin in the Tokyo metro. As a result, 13 people were killed and about 6 thousand were injured.

13 members of the sect, including Asahara, were later sentenced to death. In total, the charges in this case were brought by 188 representatives of Aum Sinrikyo.

On April 5, 2016, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case in connection with the activities of Aum Sinriko's supporters in Russia. According to the official representative of the department, Vladimir Markin, the case was instituted to create an association, the activities of which are associated with violence against citizens and other causing harm to their health (part 1 of Article 239 of the Criminal Code). The punishment under this article implies a fine of up to 300 thousand rubles or imprisonment for up to four years.

According to Markin, the followers of Aum Sinrikyo used physical and psychological pressure on citizens in order to obtain their property. From 2012 to 2014, he added, the sect collected donations over the Internet. Meetings of its participants in Moscow and St. Petersburg were also held. A day later, it turned out that about 30 residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg, detained on suspicion of belonging to the sect, were only fans of yoga. All detainees were released without involvement as suspects .
