The social network Facebook announced the launch of the Gameroom gaming platform, designed for desktop PCs running OS Windows.
As TechCrunch writes, a beta version of the platform is available to developers, and users can install its application on computers running Windows 7 and higher.
The new platform allows users to play browser and mobile games in a separate application (the current selection of games in different categories is quite large), and the social network’s partner is the Unity software platform, with which developers can easily port games to Gameroom.
TechCrunch notes that Gameroom can compete with the Steam service, which has more than 125 million active users, but to do this, Facebook will have to convince developers that the new platform can share the success of the social network. In addition, Gameroom must attract users.
According to the publication, Facebook will be able to receive about 30% of all in-game payments, and game developers will have the opportunity to advertise their products on the social network. In addition, it can be assumed that players will be able to broadcast using Facebook Live.
