The media reported that the HIV epidemic was officially announced in Yekaterinburg. The authorities of Yekaterinburg quickly refuted this: no one officially announced the epidemic, and the journalists incorrectly interpreted the words of the first deputy head of the Health Department of Yekaterinburg Tatyana Savinova. Earlier, she stated that, according to the latest data, every fiftieth Yekaterinburger HIV is infected. We asked to explain the situation of the mayor of Yekaterinburg, Evgeny Roizman and the director of the Foundation Speedes Center Anton Krasovsky.

-It was announced that in Yekaterinburg 1.8% of the population of HIV-infected. But this does not mean that in Yekaterinburg the most people with HIV in Russia, does this mean that in Yekaterinburg the identity of HIV is above?

- This situation has developed not only in Yekaterinburg - it is throughout the country. It’s just that our city health allows ourselves to call a spade a spade. We are not afraid to talk about it out loud.

In reality, the number of HIV-infected Yekaterinburg is no different from all Russian millionaires and industrial cities. We are the same as everyone else. And in general, the situation in the country with HIV is worse than the situation in Yekaterinburg. It’s just that we have the highest percentage of proven in the country. In Yekaterinburg, Gorsdrav worked on HIV detection for many, many years. We have a powerful center of prevention, opposition to AIDS. In Yekaterinburg, it is now covered, that is, it has been checked for HIV, about a quarter of the population, and in Russia as a whole - less than 15%.

In the Sverdlovsk region, the number of HIV-infected people per 100 thousand people is precisely larger than in Yekaterinburg. It is absolutely accurate that a similar situation in Saratov, in Samara, in Novosibirsk, in Irkutsk, in Kimra, in Tver, Vyshny Volochka and many other cities. In agricultural areas, it can be easier, but in cities, millionaires it is worse.

-And among the remaining unverified 75% of Yekaterinburgers of HIV-infected even more?

- On the proven 25%, you can make a representative sample. But I think that the tests are mainly given by people more socialized, more thinking. Therefore, in the remaining part, it is quite possible, HIV-infected are more.

- Why then were the news about the epidemic only now?

- The generalized stage of the epidemic is when 1% of the population is infected. So we announced this five years ago. And I personally about the fact that in the city and in the field of the HIV epidemic, I began to speak in 1999, because it was obvious.
