The former head of STS Media and the current film producer Alexander Rodnyansky entered the Oscar Academy this summer, and now not only does and promoting Russian cinema, but also judges Hollywood. In a large interview with Republic, he talked about whether it is possible to keep up with the conjuncture whether his words of officials are scared, why the cinema in Russia is a dependent, and whether Ukrainian propaganda is catching up with Russian.
- You entered the Oscar Film Academy. What should you do now?
- You need to meet and watch a movie. Now quite loaded six months of the life of the Academy is the so -called season of awards. I am already flooded with all kinds of beautiful letters and invitations to views: from Warner to Fox, from Sony Classics to Columbia Pictures. Everyone has their own paintings, everyone moves them, engaged in each member of the academy separately, there is nothing surprising in this - an intelligent newsletter with a signature. Then you need to come to views-to special academic cinemas in different cities of the world, from London to Los Angeles, and vote for the best in categories, and at the moment when the nominees are determined, catch digital links and vote for the winners. Actually, everything.
- Are you satisfied with the work of the Russian Oscar Committee? It seems that only the lazy did not say that the Mikhalkov’s paintings were mainly put forward.
-Four years ago, there was the most acute public conflict-due to the nomination of "tired by the sun-2." After that, by the way, the committee’s composition has been changed, now it is more or less transparent-directors and producers of winning films and nominees for Oscar and winners of category A. Festivals look logical, the question is to what this committee is functioning effectively. But in Russia, with an advancement to Oscar, it is much easier than in many countries - at least there are legitimate filmmakers with experience in struggle for it, there are many where there are simply no participants in serious international film festivals, so the heads of state funds and ministries are engaged there. We have no officials in the committee - this is an important thing.
Last year, there really was a “sun blow”, but there was no feeling that some wonderful film remained overboard was no. It is actually sinful to complain. The nomination of Leviathan was a surprise for everyone, including me, although I, of course, tried very hard to convince the members of the committee, showing them all the picture in advance, but it seems to me that it was such a positive signal from the committee, which, in general, is not necessarily politically motivated. And, by the way, in the same year, a very good Ukrainian film by Miroslav Svyshpitsky “Tribes”-in my opinion, the best in twenty years, made within the country and received pieces of thirty international awards, was not nominated from Ukraine. They put forward a stupid some revolutionary picture about the blind kobzars, who are tormented by vile kagabists. And failed. And the "tribe" had real chances. That is, in Russia that year the choice was less politicized than in Ukraine.

And last year, for once, the French festival won the French picture-the film of a very beloved director Jacques Odar called Dipan. And the first picture of the young Frenchwoman of Turkish descent Denise Gamza Ergüvens “Mustang”, also shown in Cannes, but as part of the parallel program “two -week directors”, went to the Oscar from France. A very good film about the clericalization of Turkish society through the history of a family with five girls, but still not the owner of a “gold palm branch”. Everything happens. And in every country you can discuss to what extent the paintings are taken correctly or incorrectly.
- Andron Konchalovsky at one time, when he took his picture from the selection in the year of the nomination of Leviathan, wrote an open letter. About the fact that the prize for the best foreign film itself is a segregation and he does not want to participate in this. And now he apparently changed his mind?
