Stanford University acquired the archive of Joseph Brodsky

A collection of documents belonging to Diana Abaeva-Maires, the wife of a friend of Joseph Brodsky, historian and translator of Russian poetry Allan Mayers, was received at the library of the Guuver Institute of War, Revolution and the World at Stanford University.

The collection includes letters, photographs, drafts, manuscripts, drawings, as well as published and unpublished poems of Brodsky, the site of Stanford University reports .

“We were extremely interested in replenishing the materials of Joseph Brodsky, collected by Diana Mayers, our extensive Russian archive, and immediately open access to these documents for the general public,” says Eric Warokin, director of the library of the Guuver Institute.

He added that with this acquired Stanford University turns into one of the largest centers for the study of the work of Joseph Brodsky.

Part of the materials received in the library is presented at the exhibition “Putting the story: new collections of the library of the Giverov Institute”, which will be opened at Stanford University until February 25, 2017.
