The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that on the morning of November 9, a Dutch Navy submarine was spotted in the Mediterranean near the location of the Russian ship group, which includes the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov.
According to the agency, the boat made "clumsy attempts to maneuver dangerously in close proximity to a group of Russian ships," which could lead to "severe navigational accidents."
“The ships monitored her maneuvering for more than an hour and forced her to leave the area where the shipborne aircraft carrier group was located,” Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said.
He added that the ship's group, during a campaign in the Mediterranean, noticed submarines of NATO countries "along the entire route of movement."
“In the course of detecting and displacing a submarine, shipborne anti-submarine crews and crews of Ka-27 helicopters worked out combat training tasks for exchanging data on its maneuvering. The anti-submarine forces of the naval aviation group of the Russian Navy have effectively conducted training on the organization of anti-submarine defense, ”said General [Igor Konashenkov].
