The Vice President of Interpol first became a Russian citizen

The representative of Russia was first elected by the Vice President of Interpol. According to the official twitter of the organization, it was the head of the National Central Bureau of Interpol of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Major General of the police Alexander Prokopchuk.

"The Russian citizen not only took the post of vice president from Europe for the first time since our country entered the Interpol more than a quarter of a century ago, but was also elected 127 votes for" at just ten "and eight abstentions," a source in the delegation told RIA Novosti.

Turning to the voting participants, Prokopchuk expressed the hope that more than thirty years of experience in law enforcement agencies will be in demand by Interpol. Earlier, he took an active part in the activities of a number of working groups and the European Committee of this organization, and two years ago he was elected a member of its executive committee. Prokopchuk also participated in the process of internal consultations with representatives of Interpol member countries from all regions of the world.

"In the conditions of our constantly changing world, where new global threats arise, I fully realize how important it is to continue to remain a few steps ahead (criminals. - Ed.), And I intend to do everything that is in my power to fully realize my potential," Prokopchuk said.

During the Assembly of Interpol, taking place on the Indonesian island of Bali, the president of the organization was elected: he became the Deputy Minister of Public Security of China Maine Hunwei.

The voting procedure for the new president was held as part of the next session of the General Assembly of the International Criminal Police, held at Bali. The session also discussed issues of combating terrorism, organized crime and cybersecurity.

Currently, the International Criminal Police Organization unites 190 states.
