Former US Assistance Michael McFolu is prohibited from entering the territory of Russia. The diplomat reported this on his Facebook page.
“I confirm that I am in the sanctions lists of the Kremlin,” McFol wrote. “This is a compliment!” He explained the ban on his "close relations with Barack Obama." At the same time, McFol expressed the hope that he was included in the Russian “black list” not forever.
“As far as I know, George Kennan was the last US ambassador to the USSR/Russia, which was prohibited from entry. A good company!” McFol noted.
In 1946, Kennan developed the foreign policy doctrine of "deterrence". He urged the United States to firmly oppose Soviet expansion in Eastern Europe. As an ambassador, Kennan arrived in Moscow on May 5, 1952. But already on September 26 of the same year, an editorial article appeared in Pravda, which reported that the American ambassador made a "slanderous statement for the press and showed himself a liar and sworn enemy of the USSR." Kennan compared the position of the Americans in Moscow with the situation in which he was in Germany in 1941-1942, when he was interned by the Nazis. As a result, the ambassador was declared a person non grata. Kennan was not even allowed to personally take his wife and children from the embassy.
The official representative of the Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, told the Rain TV channel that she knew nothing about the ban on the entry of Macfol. “I do not make these lists,” she said.
Meanwhile, an unnamed source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the television channel for the ban on the ex-service of the entrance. At the same time, the source noted that Macfol, "as always," was mistaken. "He was included in the return list not for" proximity to Obama ", as he wrote, but for active participation in the destruction of bilateral relations and as a consistent lobbyist of the pressure campaign to Russia," the source said.
McFol worked as an ambassador of the United States in Russia in 2011-2014. In the administration of President Obama, diplomat is considered one of the main specialists in the countries of the former USSR. At the election headquarters of the Democrats in 2008, McFol headed the specialized direction. After resigning, he returned to the work of a professor of political sciences at Stanford University.
