Leonard Cohen died

In the United States, at the age of 82, the Canadian musician, singer and poet Leonard Cohen died. This is stated in the message on the artist's page on Facebook.

"With deep sorrow, we report that the legendary poet, composer and performer Leonard Cohen died. We lost one of the most revered musicians and bright dreamers," the statement said.

The funeral will be held in Los Angeles. The time of the ceremony will be announced later.

The mayor of Montreal Dani Coder has already stated that state flags would be visible in memory of Cohen in the city.

Leonard Cohen was born on September 21, 1934 in Montreal. The first poetic collection, "let's compare mythology," published in 1956. Already the first and second novels brought him fame - in 1963, "Favorite Game" and in 1966 "brilliant losers".

In 1967, Cohen moved to the United States, where his career of the musician began. In 1967, after performances at several folk festivals, he recorded his first Songs of Leonard Cohen album. The album was enthusiastically accepted in Folk-circles and his compositions lasted in the top of the American charts for more than a year, although they did not bring Cohen of great commercial success.

This was followed by Songs from a Room, Songs of Love and Hate, Live Songs and New Skin For the Old Ceremony.

In 1984, the world heard one of the largest Cohen hits - the song Hallelujah from the Various Position album.
