The CEO of NTpharma was placed under house arrest in the case of embezzlement of Rusnano funds.

The Basmanny Court of Moscow today placed under house arrest for two months - until mid-January - the general director of NTpharma LLC, Evgeniy Sultanov, suspected of embezzlement of Rusnano property . “The court decided: to satisfy the investigation’s request, to choose a preventive measure against Sultanov in the form of house arrest until January 16, 2017,” Judge Natalia Dudar announced the decision.

Sultanov partially admitted his guilt, his lawyer Mikhail Sazonov said on Friday. According to him, the defense will not appeal the defendant’s house arrest.

The day before, investigators detained Sultanov along with the mayor of the city of Pereslavl-Zalessky Denis Koshurnikov and the founder of NTpharma Rustam Ataullakhanov.

Ataullakhanov and Sultanov are suspected of embezzlement of property entrusted to them on an especially large scale (Part 4 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code), Koshurnikov - of exceeding official powers by the head of a local government body causing grave consequences (Clause “c” of Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code) ).

The Investigative Committee reported that since 2010, Rusnano has invested more than 1 billion rubles in the NTpharma company. for the construction of a complex for the pharmaceutical production of vaccines near Pereslavl. Construction was supposed to be completed in 2012, but the deadline was repeatedly pushed back. “The investigation established that work on the implementation of this project has not been carried out for many years, the funds received by NTpharma LLC from Rusnano JSC were wasted and, as a result, the plant has not yet been built,” the department’s statement said. Investigators believe that Ataullakhanov and Sultanov purchased a plot of land from a company affiliated with Koshurnikov in 2011 “in order to create the appearance of completing the project.”

On Wednesday, November 16, searches were carried out at the Rusnano office. The company’s press release noted that “presumably investigative actions against one of the managers of Rusnano may be related to the delay in the construction of the NTpharma pharmaceutical complex located in the Yaroslavl region.”
