Peskov noted that he, like the elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, does not like the term "rebooting" in relation to Russian-American relations. “As for the word“ reloading ”of relations, it is probably really possible to agree with the elected president - the word really complicated itself, because the consequences of this“ reboot ”are not at all the ones that we would like to see,” the spokesman emphasized. “The term in this case does not matter. The main thing is the presence of desire and demonstration of readiness to normalize relations.”

In an interview with The New York Times, Trump, published on Wednesday, stated that he was configured to normalize relations between Washington and Moscow. The elected president noted that it would be good if he and Vladimir Putin got along. However, Trump spoke out against the use of the word "rebooting". "I would not use this term after what happened," Trump said. During the election campaign, he repeatedly stated that the attempt to “reboot” Russian-American relations crashed by the ex-head of Hillary Clinton. As Trump noted due to mistakes made by Clinton and the Barack Obama administration, the connections between the USA and Russia only worsened.

On November 11, Trump said in an interview that he received a “excellent letter” from Vladimir Putin , but did not specify the contents of the message. Then he reported plans to talk with the Russian president by phone in the near future.

On November 14, Putin held a telephone conversation with Trump . As reported on the Kremlin’s website, the interlocutors agreed that the current state of Russian-American relations is “extremely unsatisfactory” and necessary “active joint work to normalize and remove constructive interaction on the widest circle of issues.” In particular, the need to develop trade and economic ties was emphasized.

The Russian president assured Trump in his readiness to "build a partner dialogue with the new administration on the principles of equality, mutual respect and non -interference in each other's internal affairs." It was decided to continue conversations on the phone, and in the future to hold a personal meeting.

On November 17, US President Barack Obama expressed the hope that Trump will retain the approach of his administration in relations with Moscow. “I hope that the elected president will take a similar constructive approach, finding spheres in which we can cooperate with Russia. But he must also resist Russia when it deviates from international norms,” said the departing president at his last meeting with the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel in Berlin.
