The governor condemned restrictions on the media in the Novosibirsk City Council

Governor Vladimir Gorodetsky spoke out against imposing restrictions on media access to the work of the Council of Deputies of Novosibirsk. The city parliament plans to consider the rules for accreditation of journalists in December.

“Any restrictions are bad,” Gorodetsky said on November 23 ( quoted from vn.ru). “I don’t restrict you: ‘You come, but you don’t, because you ask me bad questions’… I consider restrictions on media access to be wrong.”

At the same time, the head of the region explained that he was not ready for detailed comments, since the decision was still being discussed in the Novosibirsk City Council.

Earlier, Taiga.info reported that the parliament has developed accreditation rules "for the wide, prompt and free dissemination of objective information" about its activities.

Now the media freely attend sessions and meetings of city council commissions, and deputies propose to streamline relations with journalists - editorial offices will have to submit applications for accreditation to participate in official events, attaching copies of registration certificates and photos of reporters to them.

The City Council also developed a number of rules for accredited media. In particular, they must respect the “honor and dignity of deputies”, not use “professional opportunities to hide information or falsify socially significant information, spread rumors under the guise of reliable messages”, and also “adhere to business dress code”.

The draft document has been submitted to the session scheduled for 2 December.
