Alexander Emelianenko was released from prison

Mixed martial arts fighter Alexander Emelianenko, convicted of sexual assault, has been released from prison. This was reported to TASS by his lawyer Kakhaber Dolbadze.

“Alexander was released today after 15:00 Moscow time. […] Now he is in Tambov and is heading to Stary Oskol to his mother,” the lawyer said.

• In October, the Borisoglebsk city court ruled that the remainder of the sentence (two years and 23 days) be replaced by corrective labor with a 10 percent deduction of salary in favor of the state. The prosecutor's office appealed this decision, pointing out that corrective labor could not be ordered for more than two years. On November 24, the court of appeal changed the period of corrective labor to two years.
• Fighter Alexander Emelianenko was arrested in May 2014. He was accused of committing violent acts of a sexual nature against a woman who cleaned his apartment, as well as stealing her passport. A year later, he was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison and fined.
• In 2013, Emelianenko was fined for a drunken brawl on board a plane flying from Moscow to Barnaul. The prosecutor’s office reported that the fighter “violated public order, spoke loudly, molested passengers, provoked them into a fight, did not respond to remarks from flight attendants, demanded alcohol, used foul language, and smoked on the plane.”
