Berlin Biennale chose a curator

The curator of the 10th Berlin Biennale of Contemporary Art, which will be held in the summer of 2018, is appointed Gabi Ngkobo (South Africa).

According to the Berlin Biennale website , with this purpose, Biennale continues its mission of the "experimental platform for research and expanding the format of the exhibition and curatorial program, as well as for studying modern global discourses and phenomena in relation to Berlin as a local reference point."

Since the beginning of 2000, Gabi Ngkobo participated in collective art, curatorial and educational projects in South Africa and abroad. She founded the NGO collective platforms and the Center for Historical Reconstruction in Johannesburg.

Gabi NGKOBO-SOCURTER of the 32nd Biennale in San Paulo and the A Labor of Love exhibition at the Museum of World Cultures (Frankfurt), she worked in the South African National Gallery (Cape Town) and in the Cape Africa Platform project, where it was one of the curators of Biennale Cape07 (Cape Town), collaborated with a number of other South African and foreign institutions.

Since 2011, he has been teaching at the Academy of Arts of the University of Witsvatersrand (Johannesburg), the author of many publications in catalogs, books and magazines. Lives and works in Johannesburg and San Paulo.

At the 5th Berlin Biennale, in 2008, Gabi Ngkobo participated in Vorkshop for young curators, at the 8th Berlin Biennale in 2014 the Center for Historical Reconstructions presented its project “Diging Our Own Graves 101” .

Berlin Biennale of Contemporary Art was founded in 1998 by the Institute of Contemporary Art of Kunterka and is funded by the German Federal Culture Fund. The 9th Berlin Biennale took place in 2016, its curators were artists Lauren Boyle, Solomon Chase, Marco Rozo and David Toro from the DIS group (New York).
